What kind of anesthesia will I receive?

All interventional pain procedures will be performed under local anesthesia of the local area being treated. The patient has a choice of receiving conscious sedation which is delivered by an IV, or Monitored Anesthesia Care, by a registered nurse under the continuous supervision of Dr. Brown throughout the procedure.

We do ask patients that choose to receive conscious sedation to have an adult driver accompany them for their procedure whether it is in the office, or at an outlying surgery center.

If you are receiving conscious sedation, please be aware of the restrictions of drinking no clear liquids 2 hours prior to your appointment time, and no solid foods for 6 hours before your appointment time so we can safely provide you sedation.

How long will my procedure take?

The length of interventional pain procedures varies. A procedure can take as little as 15 to 20 minutes, to 1-2 hours for the more complex and complicated procedures we perform.

As we want you to come 30 minutes prior to your scheduled procedure in the Lakewood office and will monitor you for 15-30 minutes in recovery after the procedure is completed, you should be prepared to spend approximately 60-90 minutes for an office-based procedure in our Lakewood office.

The surgery centers, Golden Ridge Surgery Center and Red Rocks Surgery Center, both want you to check-in one hour prior to your scheduled procedure and, as the same time requirements for the procedure and recovery apply, you should be prepared to spend approximately 90-120 minutes.
